Internet Security Essay Summary Example For Students

Web Security Essay Summary He doesnt wear a stocking veil over his face, and he doesnt break a window to get into your home. He doesnt hold a weapon to your head, nor does he scour your own belongings. Simply similar hes a hoodlum. In spite of the fact that this hoodlum is one youll not just never see,but you may not understand immediately that hes burglarized you. The hoodlum is a PC programmer and he enters your home by means of your PC, getting to individual data, for example, Visa numbers which he could then use without your insight at any rate until you get that next financial record. RichardBernes, administrator of the FBIs Hi-Techsquad in San Jose, California, considers the Internet the opened window in the internet through which hoodlums slither (Erickson 1). There is by all accounts a boundless potential for robbery of Mastercard numbers, bank explanations and other budgetary and individual data transmitted over the Internet. Its difficult to envision that anybody in todays innovatively arranged world could work without PCs. PCs are connected to business PCs and monetary systems, and all are connected together by means of the Internet or different systems. In excess of a hundred million electronic messages travel through the internet consistently, and each snippet of data put away in a PC is helpless against assault (Icove-Seger-VonStorch 1). Yesterdays burglars have become todays PC programmers. They can leave a PC wrongdoing with a huge number of virtual dollars (as data they can utilize or sell for a colossal benefit). Leaving is unequivocally what they do. The National Computer Crimes Squad assesses that 85-97 % of the time, robbery of data from PCs isn't recognized (Icove-Seger-VonStorch 1). Home PC clients are defenseless, not just for charge card data and login IDs, yet in addition their records, plates, and other PC hardware and information, which are liable to assault. Regardless of whether this data isn't secret, remaking what has been wrecked by a programmer can take days (Icove-Seger-VonStorch 1). William Cheswick, a system security pro at AT;T Bell Labs, says the home PCs that utilization the Internet are independently defenseless against assault. The Internet resembles a vault with a screen entryway on the back, says Cheswick. I dont need jackhammers and nuclear bombs to get in when I can stroll in through the entryway (Quittner 44). The utilization of the Internet has gotten one of the most mainstream approaches to convey. Its simple, fun, and you dont need to leave your home to do it. For instance, the upside of not counting on an opportunity to drive is incredible to the point that they never consider the way that the data they store or transmit probably won't be protected. Numerous PC security experts keep on standing up on how the absence of Internet security will bring about a huge increment in PC extortion, and simpler access to data recently thought to be priva te and secret (Regan 26). Gregory Regan, composing for Credit World, says that lone particular kinds of undertakings and highlights can be performed safely. Electronic banking isn't one of them. I would not suggest performing business exchanges, he prompts or sending secret data across systems joined to the Internet (26). In the business world, PC security can be simply undermined. In excess of 33% of major U.S. companies revealed working together over the Internet up from 26 percent a year prior however a fourth of them state theyve endured endeavored break-ins and misfortunes, either in taken information or money (Denning 08A). Dr. Gregory E. Shannon, leader of InfoStructure Services and Technologies Inc., says the need to improve PC security is fundamental. There are recently discharged PC devices planned to help keep the security of your PC data, however which can simply be gotten to by PC programmers, as this data will be discharged as freeware (accessible, and free, to anybody) on the Internet (Cambridg e 1). These uninhibitedly disseminated devices could make it far simpler for programmers to break into frameworks. By and by, if a programmer is attempting to break into a framework, he needs to continue examining a system for shortcomings. In a little while, programmers will have the option to point one of these freeware apparatuses at a system and let it naturally test for security gaps, with no communication from themselves (Cambridge 1). Programmers, it appears, experience no difficulty remaining in front of the PC security specialists. Online specialist co-ops, for example, America Online, CompuServe and Prodigy, are powerful in giving extra insurance to PC data. Above all else, you have to utilize a mystery secret phrase a client ID that is composed in when you sign on to the system. At that point you can just send data, and recover your own email, through your own client get to. Once in a while the administration itself is even bolted out of certain data. CompuServe, for inst ance, with its 800 or more private notice sheets, cannot peruse whats on them without increasing earlier authorization from the organization paying for the administration (Flanagan 34). Maybe trying to show how make sure about they are, these data administrations will give out almost no data about security itself. They all take measures to ensure private data, and give visit alerts to new clients about the risk in giving out a secret key, yet there is likewise threat inmaking the administration simple to use for the overall population anything that is made simple enough for the beginner PC client would not present a very remarkable test for a PC programmer. All things considered, there is a sure measure of assurance in utilizing a specialist co-op doing so is generally comparable to locking what may be an open entryway (Flanagan 34). .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554 , .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554 .postImageUrl , .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554 .focused content zone { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554 , .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554:hover , .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554:visited , .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554:active { border:0!important; } .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554 { show: square; change: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-progress: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; obscurity: 1; progress: mistiness 250ms; webkit-change: murkiness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554:active , .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554:hover { darkness: 1; progress: haziness 250ms; webkit-progress: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554 .focused content region { width: 100%; position: relativ e; } .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554 .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: striking; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; text-enhancement: underline; } .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; text style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; fringe sweep: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: intense; line-tallness: 26px; moz-fringe span: 3px; text-adjust: focus; text-embellishment: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: outright; right: 0; top: 0; } .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .uba46ee7e0333e b79a56649ec4d473554 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .uba46ee7e0333eb79a56649ec4d473554:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Saratoga EssayThe most recent shaky area that has been found is an imperfection in the World Wide Web. The Web is the quickest developing zone inside the Internet, the zone where most home PC clients travel, as its alluring and simple to utilize. As indicated by a warning gave on the Internet by a developer in Germany, there is an opening in the product that runs most Web locales (Quittner 44). This passage point will furnish a gatecrasher with access to all data, permitting him to do anything the proprietors of the site can do. System security expert Cheswick calls attention to that the vast majority of the Web locales use prog ramming that puts them in danger. With increasingly more home PC utilizes setting up their own home pages and Web destinations, this is only one all the more way a programmer can access individual data (Quittner 44). Credit agencies know about how monetary data can be utilized or changed by PC programmers, which seriously affects their clients. Credits can be made with bogus data (acquired by the programmers from a clueless PC clients information base); and data can be changed for motivations behind trickery, provocation or even extortion. These happen day by day in the monetary administrations industry, and the utilization of Internet has just entangled how an association or private individual keeps data hidden, secret and, in particular, right (Regan 26). All things considered, there are a few estimates that can be taken to help secure your data. In the event that you utilize an infection assurance program before downloading any filesfrom the Internet, there is to a lesser degree a possibility a programmer can break your framework. Login passwords ought to be changed every now and again (record it so you dont overlook, yet store it in a protected spot), and they ought to never contain words or names that are handily speculated. It might be simpler for you to recollect your secret word on the off chance that you utilize your children name, yet its additionally simpler for the programmer to distinguish

Essay about Feminism and Changing Perceptions of Motherhood

Societal perceptions of motherhood in North America have changed drastically over the last century and continue to change. Due to prescribed traditional gender roles, the concept of motherhood has historically been latent in the concept womanhood, in that a woman’s ability to reproduce was seen to be an inherent part of her identity. Thus there existed societal pressures not only for women to become mothers, but to fit into the impossible standard of being the â€Å"perfect mother†. However, as the feminist movement gained more ground and women were increasingly incorporated into the workforce, these traditional views of gender roles and in turn motherhood were challenged. As the family dynamics that exist today are much more diverse, what†¦show more content†¦They argue that this media driven debate pins working mothers against stay-at-home mothers in order to â€Å"divert the dialogue away from the real issues such as affordable health care, quality childcar e, gender and racial equality, fathers’ roles in parenting, media effects, fair wages and benefits, and family-friendly work arrangements† (204). They state that in this culture of mother-blame, mothers have been blamed for causing problems in regards to childhood development such as, â€Å"epilepsy, colitis, asthma, ulcers, arthritis, anorexia nervosa, and a multitude of more severe problems in children† (207). However, they argue that it is now â€Å"accepted that these disorders are in fact not caused by poor mothering†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (208). Another issue with the Mommy Wars debate is that it portrays a universal kind of woman – white, affluent, and heterosexual – ignoring the fact that there are many different kinds of mothers of all backgrounds, sexualities, and economic statuses – which can make those who are not reflected as the â€Å"average† mother, feel inadequate. The authors further argue that these messages that working mot hers are harming their children are what discourage women from economic participation and achievement and can have a negative impact on a mother’s perception of herself - which in turn can affect her performance as a parent. These details are used transfers money from the victims account to another anonymous account. The fraudsters are able to transfer money without being noticed and cannot be noticed. This is as a result of globalization where they can be located anywhere around the globe. Globalization has also integrated the banking system and the fraudsters can easily transfer money from the victims account to another bank without limitations or questioning (Manjusha Goel, 2012). The fraudsters also have ability to hide their identity or use robots to avoid being arrested. This lead to customers money being stolen from their bank accounts. Secondly, text message scam lead to customer losing confidence with the bank. Customers feel frustrated with fraudster messages that mislead them. Customers fear to lose their money while on their banks account. The loss of confidence in banks ability to secure their money leads to massive transfer to other banks that can guarantee customer confidence (Hollow, 2014). Customers are able to access many banks for both current and saving accounts around the globe. Globalizations allow customers to transfer and open account with different banks around the globe. The customers will choose to bank with institutions that can safeguard their money away from fraudsters. This will lead to bank liquidity decreasing. Third, text messages scam can con the bank accounts leading to bankruptcy of the bank and members. Scam messages can transfer adequate amount from the customers accounts leading to bankruptcy of the customers and consequently the whole bank (Gupta, Sharman, 2009). This can happen when the fraudsters are able to anonymously transfers adequate amount of fund to other national or international accounts emptying the banks accounts. Secondly, the bank profits are likely to reduce. The impact of the fraud in the customers account is likely to reduce customers activities on their account (Bakare, 2015). This is as a result of loss of confidence and trust with the information technology system of the bank. This means that customers will avoid transacting through their online accounts. The bank is likely to be sued for its inability to safeguard the clients account and ensure effective communication. The bank has a duty of care of protecting customers money and ensuring credibility of the information disseminated to custo0mers regarding their accounts. It the responsibility of the bank to ensuring customers money is secure for the duration deposited to withdraw. Therefore, the, the customers holding accounts in the bank who have be fraud by fraudsters will sue the institution demanding refund or explanation about their loss. The bank can also be suspended from the global interconnections that it is engaged on (Ghosh, 2016). This situation will put the bank in a compromising situation whose consequences can be adverse. Fourth the banks customers can develop resistance to future changes or advancement in technology. The text message scam can lead to clients of the bank developing phobia about the IT system on the basis of inability to safeguard their funds. This entails that they will not cooperate in adopting future developments that the bank is pursuing to ensuring quality banking serirve delivery. This means that the business will have to invest more resources to institute changes when need be. Another critical issue as a result of text message scam on Common Wealth Bank is closure of the bank. Fraud to customers, loss of reputation, low profits, and bankruptcy can lead to the organizations being closed down. This closure would be as a result of general inability to safeguard stakeholders interests. This is the extreme case of the scam occurring on the institution. Recommendation to Enhance Organizational Performance From the analysis of the text message scam impact and critical issues on Common Wealth Bank, we recommend the following; First, the Bank should establish a monitoring system. The fraudsters will not be able to use new knowledge and skills to take advantage of the Banks IT system to leak information to manipulate customers. Updating the IT system will also enable the bank restore and guarantee customers confidence of the banking system to safeguard their wealth. Third the bank should create awareness about the fraudster practices in the banking sector. The Bank should invest in educating it customers about the fraudsters tricks to fraud their account. Impacting customers with knowledge about fraudsters will enable them to protect their important details that are target by criminals. This awareness will also enable the customers report fraudsters to the bank and the authority for further action. Lastly, the Bank should integrate it communication and activities with other banks to fight crime against customer fraud. The bank should stand by defining and availing contacts that are to be used to communicate with customers when need be. The telephone numbers should be complimented by an email to. This will ensure verification of the communication and the message intended. The Bank should also interconnect it system with other institutions in the banking sector to track, fight, and eradicate fraudster around the globe (Tsai, 2016). This will ensure fraudsters are tamed or the money stolen can be retrieved and returned to customers. Conclusion Text messages scam can affect the organizational performance if not addressed. They have several impacts to customers and the institution in global context. Text scams cause conning of money that are anonymous, loss of confidence from the service provided and customers shifting from the bank. Text messages scam also cause bankruptcy of both customers and the bank leading to loss institution reputation. Text messages lead to the Bank losing it customers, decline in profitability, possible prosecution, and likely closure of the bank. Galveston Hurricane and Its Influence on Americans Confidence in Conquering Nature in 1800s and 1900s

The confrontation between nature and science has always been the main cornerstone for humanity as soon as people start gaining knowledge in various fields. Throughout the history, people have been struggling with natural powers to prove their superiority over it. However, their confidence in the possibility to conquer the nature did not help them much when they encounter Galveston hurricane. Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Galveston Hurricane and Its Influence on Americans’ Confidence in Conquering Nature in 1800s and 1900s specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Indeed, Isaac Cline was an honorable meteorological community; he had strong confidence in scientific knowledge that allowed him to predict storms by cloud motions and behavior. Therefore, the idea that a hurricane could destroy the entire city of Galveston was not even considered. Nevertheless, in 1900, the American society felt stronger than it did b efore and, therefore, nothing in nature could prevent the prosperous development of Galveston. However, blind confidence had become the reason for the most horrible disaster in the American history. At the threshold of the 20th century, the city of Galveston was considered a prosperous city with the population of about 37.000 residents. Due to its beneficial geographic location, Galveston had also become the biggest commercial city in Texas, which made the citizens become more proud of it. The rapid development of trade relations had also contributed to technological advancement and, therefore, Galveston community believed that their progressive technologies could overcome the natural forces. In the book, Larson introduces his own research findings by stating, â€Å"†¦if things continued as there were Galveston soon would achieve the stature of New Orleans, Baltimore, or San Francisco† (12). Hence, all scientists, businesspeople, and investors were more concerned with commercial and economic growth of the city rather than with meteorological situation. Gaining a reputation of a future cosmopolitan, people were, indeed, proud of the achievements and potential of the community development. Galveston citizens had been reassured that no hurricane could destroy Galveston because of accurate temperature and meteorologist forecast. In the book, Larson refers to the characters as well-educated, confident citizens, who strongly believed that technological progress and scientific knowledge were reliable protection mechanisms. The scientist was able to explain even the strangest phenomena that ever happened. In addition, Isaa c had a clear view of the Gulf to make possible calculations and predictions concerning any threats to the city. He also knew about the peculiarities of the climatic conditions. However, the author emphasized this fact to prove the possibility of eliminating the tragedy if Mr. Cline admitted the probability of hurricane approaching the Gulf. Cline’s extreme confidence in his knowledge of storm phenomenon was the major reason for ignoring the message from the Cuban meteorologists who identified the incoming storm on September 5. However, this weather information was not taken seriously by Galveston weather bureau, since they believed that their Cuban colleagues had failed to accurately forecast. In particular, the meteorologist believed that â€Å"the Cuban†¦seemed to care more about drama and passion than science† (Larson 112). As a result of stereotypic judgment and false assumptions, the scientists had explicitly ignored the possibility of any hazards to the cit y. Moreover, the government considered that telegraph messages sent by the Cuban meteorological status sought to conspire against their weather bureau. In fact, Larson introduced a number of facts proving that the Cubans could forecast weather with much higher accuracy than the U.S. weather station (113). The history and evidence shows that there was indeed a storm in Cuba. So, should meteorologists believed their Cuban colleagues and consider the information, they could conclude that all tropical systems would turn north. The scientists, including Isaac Cline, did not even admit that the Gulf could be destroyed by the hurricane. Rather, the national weather bureau had issued the news for the citizens, assuring that â€Å"The storm will probably continue slowly northward and its effects will be felt as far as the lower portion of the middle Atlantic cost by Friday night† (Larson 113). However, their predictions were mistaken and were largely affected by their extreme relian ce on scientific knowledge. Negligence of the information sent by neighboring meteorological stations had led to irreversible consequences. Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Galveston Hurricane and Its Influence on Americans’ Confidence in Conquering Nature in 1800s and 1900s specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Even when Isaac Cline admitted the fact of the approaching hurricane, the government never granted the permission to release information about hurricane warning because it would mean the admittance of the mistake. Moreover, the bureau refused to use the term hurricane in order to avert panic and preserve their reputation. Informed about storm, but not dangerous hurricane, citizens remained confident that there was no any danger. Although the signs of the approaching storm were evident, the meteorologist firmly believed that no natural disaster could do tangible damage to the city. Mr. Cline was also s ure that the town was not vulnerable to serious destructions because of the beneficial geographic location. People’s reluctance to accept the superiority of natural forces had led to horrible consequences. The compelling story about the impact of stereotypes and increased confidence proves that the American society had failed to oppose the disaster, regardless of its advanced technological and scientific development. After the hurricane, Galveston lost its reputation of a commercially prosperous seaport. Instead, it had become the symbol of the national tragedy, as well as a memorial for more than 8 thousand people. After the event, Galveston community fully realized their mistakes and constructed a seventeen-foot high wall to protect the city from hurricanes in future. The fact that the citizens had totally reconsidered the protection systems in the city signified to the loss of confidence in their exceptional experience and knowledge, as well as their superiority over nat ure. Hence, Larson manages to portray the Weather Bureau in the light of insufficient experience and inaccurate previous forecasts predicting the hurricane. Cline should have listened to his intuition and knowledge rather than to his pride and complacency. In conclusion, Galveston hurricane exemplifies the most horrible episode in the American history and presents an account on the meteorologists’ negligence that had become the reason for numerous deaths. Extreme willingness to gain power over nature was a priority for the Weather Bureau that strived to maintain its high reputation. Galveston community was also overwhelmed with confidence due to the prosperity and rapid development of the city. Being one of the biggest commercial centers, the government failed to listen to the Cuban broadcast. Following false stereotyped did not allow the citizens to admit the possibility of threat. Even Isaac Cline, who was recognized as an expert meteorologist failed to predict the disaste r. Hence, the blind confidence prevented them from protecting themselves. After the disaster, American confidence was entirely lost.Advertising Looking for essay on history? Let's see if we can help you! Agency by ratification Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Agency by ratification - Assignment Example Agency is the association that exist when one party known as agent decide to represents another party known as principal in a business transaction and has power to alter the legal situation of the party they represent in an agreement with a third party Agency by ratification comes into existence if one party acted as an agent for a non existing principal, and the party claimed to be the principal actually accept to be bound by the term of the agreement as if they had actually authorized the agent to act on their behalf (Stone, 2011). Under such circumstance, the alleged principal can never disown the agreement and they indeed become the principal and agent in all legal perspectives. The agencies by ratification become legal only if the alleged principal met legal requirements of a principal at the time of acceptance of the contract (Gordley, 2001). However, under such a situation, both the principal and the other party have the right to sue the agent for the loss suffered as a result of the conducts of the agent. In order for this agreement to become effective, the alleged principal must have been in a potential to form such a relationship. For the contract to be ratified, the agent must disclose to the other party that they are actually acting as agent for the certain principal though not disclosed to that other party (Stone, 2011). Therefore, if the agent fails to state that they are acting as agent, this agreement cannot be effective. For example, in Keighley Maxted & C v Durant [1901], Keighley authorised the other business partner R to purchase weight at a specified price for their business. However, R could did not get weight at the specified price and instead decided to purchase it from Durant at a greater price. Keighley promised to accept the agreement, but later declined it. Durant challenged the decision in the court, but the House of Lords issued a verdict Keighley was no bound by the agreement due to the reason of it imposed unnecessary cost. The r egulation requires that at the time of creation of agreement, the alleged principal who will approve the agreement must be in surviving at the time the accord was being made (Gordley, 2001). This requirement aims to protect third party from entering into unlawful treaty. This is because the law has set definite terms which a person should meet before they can sign abiding agreement. Therefore, if a person alleged to be the principal could not be determined at the time of signing the agreement, then the person cannot be able to approve and adopt the contract later. For example, in Kelner v Baxter (1866) LR 2 CP 174, advertisers of a nonexistent company entered into an agreement with buyers before the company was established. After the formation of the company, those buyers purchased the wine on credit, which they never paid until the company went on liquidation. The promoters were sued, but they argued that they had acted on behalf of the company hence were not responsible (Stone, 20 11). However, CJ Erle claimed that the marketer were liable for the debt since the company was nonexistence at the time they signed the agreement with the buyers. The alleged principal must have contractual capacity to form a binding agreement at the time the treaty was being made (Gordley, 2001). For example, the person must be of sound mind at the time the contract was signed on their behalf. In Dibbins v Dibbins (1896), the solicitor applied to the court with intention of acquiring partnership property since the only surviving partner was insane (Stone, 2011). The solicitor notified the court about the state of the agent and intention o effect the agreement on their behalf. However, the notice was beyond the agreed time

The Disintegration of Yugoslavia Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The Disintegration of Yugoslavia - Essay Example This was based on absence of an effective social and legal framework that resulted into distrust within the family settings, anxiety among ever-smaller divisions, and divisions among heirs over landholdings. Despite gaining independence from Ottomans, Serbia has continued to suffer agricultural crisis until today (Silber & Little, 1996). Despite the theological argument over use of Cyrillic contrary to Latin alphabet or adherence to pope as authority of the bishop, Slovenes, Serbs, and Croats differences involved a great deal. Croats were considered traitors to hereditary Habsburg because they declined to surrender their local traditions and Catholicism. Similarly, Bosnian Muslims were considered servants to old Ottoman oppressors because of their cleavage to Islam. Therefore, disintegration of Yugoslavia was ascribed to the perceptions of Muslims and Catholics as demons in accordance with the dominant Serbian Orthodox theology (Cohen, 1995). In regards to Serbs, conflicts emerged among landlords or family members over property ownership due to conversion of landlords to Islamic religion. Market haggling and peddling characterized entrepreneurship in Yugoslavia. Development of Serbian bourgeoisie into class was belated despite its late arrival on the historical scene. However, the Croats and Slovenes were prepared for the arrival of capitalism in the Balkans (Schwartz, 1999). This was exemplified by the embedded attitudes that were held towards property. Serbianism was symbolized by burning of property registers as a means to protest against Muslim domination in Yugoslavia and deep ambivalence about the broader legal; and social reality beyond the nuclear family settings. Disintegration was aggravated by existence of mistrust towards laws outside the family in addition to Ottoman land records due to their implication of foreign governance (Silber & Little, 1996). However, the differences which

Marketing Strategies In Life Insurance Services Marketing Essay

Marketing Strategies In Life Insurance Services Marketing Essay The study is designed to evaluate the marketing strategies in life insurance service sector how these strategies boost sales marketability of a product which ultimately lead to customer satisfaction. The insurance scenario faces multiple challenges such as increased costs of operation, regulatory pressures, and inflexible technology infrastructure. These pressures are compounded by low to moderate premium growth the increasing burdens of regulatory compliance. Keeping all the above problems around the study would attempt to study all the factors that contributed to the effective marketing strategies. This paper presents different marketing strategies that are taken up in life insurance services keeping in view external and internal environment of the firm. Marketing strategy is the basic approach that the business units will use to achieve its objectives, and it consists of broad decisions on target markets, market positioning and mix, and marketing expenditure levels. As the finan cial services sector has become more competitive, financial institutions need to consider ,ways of developing relationships with their existing customers in order to defend their market share. Strategic dimension of marketing should focus on the direction that an organization would take in relation to a specific market or set of markets in order to achieve a specified set of objectives. Every insurer must recognize that its strategic posture depends partly on the competitive environment, partly on its allocation of marketing resources. An insurance firm strategy is a plan for action that determines how an insurer can best achieve its goals and objectives in the light of the existing pressures exerted by competition, on the one hand, and its limited resources on the other hand. Key words: Customer satisfaction,Insurance,Innovation,Marketing Strategies,Services, Introduction: In todays economy, the financial services industry is exposed to increasing performance pressures and competitive forces (Goergen, 2001). Modern media, such as the internet, have created new challenges for this industry (Fuchs, 2001).New business concepts, a change in client sophistication (Davis, 2006), and anincreasing number of new competitors entering into the market, such as independent financial consultants, have changed the business models and the competitive forces that established financial services organizations are facing today worldwide.A marketing strategy serves as the foundation of a marketing plan. A marketing plan contains a list of specific actions required to successfully implement a specific marketing strategy. A strategy is different than a tactic. While it is possible to write a tactical marketing plan without a sound, well-considered strategy, it is not recommended. Without a sound marketing strategy, a marketing plan has no foundation. Marketing strategies serve as the fundamental underpinning of marketing plans designed to reach marketing objectives. It is important that these objectives have measurable results.A good marketing strategy should integrate an organizations marketing goals, policies, and action sequences (tactics) into a cohesive whole. The objective of a marketing strategy is to provide a foundation from which a tactical plan is developed. This allows the organization to carry out its mission effectively and efficiently. The following techniques are implemented to device the Marketing Strategy for the product/service: Segmentation Targeting Positioning Market segmentation is the process in marketing of grouping a market (i.e. customers) into smaller subgroups. This is not something that is arbitrarily imposed on society: it is derived from the recognition that the total market is often made up of submarkets (called segments). These segments are homogeneous within (i.e. people in the segment are similar to each other in their attitudes about certain variables). Because of this intra-group similarity, they are likely to respond somewhat similarly to a given marketing strategy. That is, they are likely to have similar feeling and ideas about a marketing mix comprised of a given product or service, sold at a given price, distributed in a certain way, and promoted in a certain way. Segmentation: Market segmentation is widely defined as being a complex process consisting in two main phases: identification of broad, large markets Segmentation of these markets in order to select the most appropriate target markets and develop marketing mixes accordingly. Positioning: Simply, positioning is how your target market defines you in relation to your competitors.   A good position is: 1. What makes you unique? 2. This is considered a benefit by your target market   Positioning is important because you are competing with all the noise out there competing for your potential fans attention.   If you can stand out with a unique benefit, you have a chance at getting their attention.   It is important to understand your product from the customers point of view relative to the competition.   Targeting: Targeting involves breaking a market into segments and then concentrating your marketing efforts on one or a few key segments. Target marketing can be the key to a small businesss success. The beauty of target marketing is that it makes the promotion, pricing and distribution of your products and/or services easier and more cost-effective. Target marketing provides a focus to all of your marketing activities. Marketing Mix: Marketing professionals and specialist use many tactics to attract and retain their customers. These activities comprise of different concepts, the most important one being the marketing mix. There are two concepts for marketing mix: 4P and 7P. It is essential to balance the 4Ps or the 7Ps of the marketing mix. The concept of 4Ps has been long used for the product industry while the latter has emerged as a successful proposition for the services industry. The 7Ps of the marketing mix that are used to frame marketing strategies of life insurance companies can be discussed as: Product It must provide value to a customer but does not have to be tangible at the same time. Basically, it involves introducing new products or improvising the existing products. A product means what we produce. If we produce goods, it means tangible product when we produce generate services, it means intangible service product. A product is both what a seller has to sell buyer has to buy. So, insurance companies sell services services are their products. Apart from life insurance as product, customer not only buys product but also services in the form of assistance advice of agent. It is natural that customers expect reasonable returns for their investments insurance companies want to maximize their profitability. Hence while deciding the product mix services or schemes should be motivational. Price Pricing must be competitive and must entail profit. The pricing strategy can comprise discounts, offers and the like. The pricing of insurance products not only affects the sales volume and profitability but also influences the perceived quality in the minds of the consumers. There are several different methods for pricing insurance, based on the insurance marketers corporate objectives. They are the survival approach, the sales maximization approach, and the profit maximization approach. To determine the insurance premium, marketers consider various factors such as mortality rate, investment earnings, and expenses, in addition to the individual risk profile based on age, health, etc., and the time period/ frequency of payment. In insurance business the pricing decisions are concerned with: -The premium charged against policies -The interest charged for defaulting the payment of premium credit facility. -Commission charged for underwriting consultancy activities. The pricing decisions may be high or low keeping in view the level or standard of customers or the policyholders. Mainly, pricing of insurance is in the form of premium rates. The three main factors used for determining the premium rates under a life insurance plan are mortality, expense interest. The pricing of insurance is in form of premium rates. The three main factors for determining the premium rates under life insurance plan are: Mortality: Average death rates in a particular area. Expenses: The cost of processing, commission to agents, registration is all incorporated into the cost of installments premium sum forms the integral part of pricing strategy. Interest: The rate of interest is one of the major factors which determine peoples willingness to invest in insurance. People would not be willing to put their funds to invest in insurance business if the interest rates provided by other financial instruments are higher than the perceived returns from the insurance premiums. Place It refers to the place where the customers can buy the product and how the product reaches out to that place. This is done through different channels, like Internet, wholesalers and retailers. This component of marketing mix is related to two important facets- -Managing the insurance personnel -Locating a branch The management of insurance personal should be done in such a way that gap between the services promises-services offered is bridged over. In a majority of service generating organizations, such a gap is found existent which has been instrumental in making down the image problem .The insurance personnel if not managed properly would make all efforts insensitive. They are required to be given adequate incentives to show their excellence. They should be provided intensive trainings to focus mainly on behavioral management. Another important dimension to the place mix is related to the location of insurance branches. While locating branches, branch manager needs to consider the number of factors such as smooth accessibility, availability of infrastructural facilities and management of branch offices and premises. Thus place management of insurance premises needs a new vision, distinct approach an innovative style. The branch managers need professional excellence to make place decisions productive. Promotion It includes the various ways of communicating to the customers of what the company has to offer. It is about communicating about the benefits of using a particular product or service rather than just talking about its features. The insurance services depend on effective promotional measures, so as to create impulsive buying. Promotion comprises of advertising other publicity tactics. The promotion is a fight not only for market share, but also for mind share. The insurance services depend on effective promotional measures, so as to create impulsive buying. Promotion comprises of advertising other publicity tactics. Due attention should be given in selecting the promotional tools. Personnel should be given adequate training for creating impulsive buying. People People refer to the customers, employees, management and everybody else involved in it. It is essential for everyone to realize that the reputation of the brand that you are involved with is in the peoples hands. Understanding the customer better allows to design appropriate products. Being a service industry which involves a high level of people interaction, it is very important to use this resource efficiently in order to satisfy customers.Training, development strong relationships with intermediaries are the key areas to be kept under consideration. Process It refers to the methods and process of providing a service and is hence essential to have a thorough knowledge on whether the services are helpful to the customers, if they are provided in time, if the customers are informed in hand about the services and many such things. The process should be customer friendly in insurance industry. The speed accuracy of payment is of immense importance. The processing method should be easy to convenient to the customers. Installment schemes should be streamlined to cater to the ever growing demands of the customers. IT Data warehousing will smoothen the process flow. IT will help in servicing the large no. of customers efficiently and bring down overheads. Technology can either complement or supplement the channels of distribution cost effectively. It also helps to improve customer service levels helps to find out profitability potential of various customers product segments. Physical (evidence) It refers to the experience of using a product or service. When a service goes out to the customer, it is essential that you help him see what he is buying or not. For example- brochures, pamphlets etc serve this purpose. Evidence is a key element of success for all insurance companies. Physical evidence can be provided to insurance customers in the form of policy certificate and premium payment receipts. The office building, the ambience, the service personnel etc. of the insurance company and their logo and brand name in advertisements also add to the physical evidence. To reach a profitable mass of customers, then new distribution avenues alliances will be necessary.Initally insurance was looked upon as a complex product with a high advice service component. Buyers prefer a face to face interaction they place a high premium on brand names reliability. Review of literature: Sankaran M (1999) studied the measures that would help domestic players in financial services sector to improve their competitive efficiency, and thereby to reduce the transaction costs. The study found that the specific set of sources of sustainable competitive advantage relevant for Financial Service Industry are: product and process innovations, brand equity, positive influences of Communication Goods ,corporate culture, experience effects, scale effects, and information technology. Trevor Watkins (1989) while studying the current state of the financial services industry worldwide identified four major trends: the trend towards financial conglomeration, globalization , information technology in service marketing; and new approaches to financial services marketing. These trends, it was concluded, will affect the marketing of banks and other financial services in the 1990s. Marisa Maio Mackay (2001) examined whether differences exist between service and produc t markets, which warrant different marketing practices by applying ten existing consumer based measures of brand equity to a financial services market. The results found that most measures were convergent and correlated highly with market share in the predicted direction, where market share was used as an indicator of brand equity. Brand recall and familiarity, however, were found to be the best estimators of brand equity in the financial services market. P. Kotler rightly states that a companys marketing strategy depends on many factors, one of which is its size and position in the market. From this assertion he suggests that one method of classifying marketing strategies is to place the firm in accordance with its competitive position; namely as to whether they are market leaders, challengers, followers, or nichers. In effect these are behavioural strategies ordered in relation to the companys market share. Impetus for marketing strategy: India is a jumbo-sized opportunity for life insurance need hardly belaboured. Here is a nation of a billion people, of whom merely 100 million people are insured. And, significantly, even those who do have insurance are grossly underinsured. The emerging middle class population, growing affluence and the absence of a social security system combine to make India one of the worlds most attractive life insurance markets. No matter how you look at it whether in terms of life insurance premiums as a percentage of GDP or premium per capita the market is under penetrated and people are under-insured. In a country where there is high unemployment and where social security systems are absent, life insurance offers the basic cover against lifes uncertainties. India has traditionally been a savings-oriented country and insurance plays a critical role in the development of the Indian economy. The role of insurance in the economy is vital as it able to mobilize p remium payments into long-term investible funds. As such, it is a key sector for development. So marketing strategies are important and inevitable phenomenon to tap huge untapped potential. Effective selling of insurance policies depends to a large extent on the marketing strategies selected. As the market for insurance is dynamic and accompanied by rapid changes in the environment due to advancements in technology and uncertain economic conditions, coupled with inflation, increased attention must be given in the future to the selection of marketing strategies. Components of marketing strategies: Pricing Personal selling Advertising Word of mouth selling Institutional image Quality control Marketing orientation New approaches to strategize the productization of life insurance services: Latest tools and techniques are used by marketers of life insurance products to boost the sales to ensure customer satisfaction and brand building. Some are the approaches to survive in this scenario are as under: Innovation: Innovation in the delivery system refers to the internal organizational arrangements that have to be managed to allow service workers to perform their job properly, and to develop and offer innovative services. All the insurance companies have a structured internal organization team with customer service teams for the delivery of the service. Extensive training is given to the service contact personnel who are called the financial consultants or Agent advisers. Service development, service design and delivery are intricately intertwined. All parties involved in any aspect of the new service must work together at this stage to delineate the details of the new service. (Valarie A Zeithmal and Mary Jo Bitner, 2003). The need and importance of the customers involvement in the service innovation process is considered to be of prime importance by all the life insurance companies as the current market for life insurance is customer centric. They also express their opinion that t he new services developed currently are based on customer focus. The degree of involvement of the customer has gradually increased in the last five years. In the last two years customers are involved in the new service process as information providers. Product/Service differentiation: In case of product differentiation, new products, customized products, tailored products, bundled products can be introduced and new target segments can be identified. For example, life, health and personal accident insurance can be bundled together. Similarly Home Loan and insurance covering fire and burglary can be put together. The life insurance companies provides only packaged policies whereas new players have been providing several Riders. Rider in insurance parlance is an option that gives the policyholder additional coverage without disturbing the fundamental risk coverage. The service in the field of life insurance has improved greatly with the entry of multinationals and rising competition. The customer should have the option to continue or to switch over or to come out of the given policy. The service in the field of life insurance has improved greatly with the entry of multinationals and rising competition. The customer should have the opt ion to continue or to switch over or to come out of the given policy. Advertising and sales promotion: Advertising and publicizing have a positive effect on the prospective customers as well as personal selling. Both the direct and indirect strategies have to be balanced and mixed well to get the desired result. Discounts and incentives promised along with the policy have to be presented in detail to the customers. The companies must provide a tangible and rational reason to the customers to buy a particular policy. Unity and honesty must be maintained by the company and the frontline executives at any cost to attract the customers in the long term. Various creative and innovative strategies should be developed to promote various different life insurance policies. Finding an ideal mix of customers with high disposable income and targeting them with specific policies is another good promotional strategy. Life insurance may be one of the most difficult products to sell, but with an effective promotional strategy it can be sold easily. Technology: Information Technology progress is a major driver behind the structural change in the Life insurance industry to enhance risk transfer efficiency. Ebusiness opens up new ways to reduce costs while lowering market entry barriers and facilitating the break-up of the traditional insurance value chain. Insurance clients will benefit from greater transparency, lower prices and improved services not just in the sales area, but also in claims management. New information and communication technologies are making it easier for insurers to break up the value chain and outsource individual functions to specialized providers. In the long-term basis the information technology units control the potential for new service delivery since all new products represent a more sophisticated delivery of the service. Although it is argued that service innovations are often non technological, this is still the center of much analysis and debate (Kandampully, 2002). Insurance is not a high cost industry like telecom sector. Therefore it is building its market on goodwill and access on distribution network. We cannot deny that insurance are not bought, it is sold. The market has a great scope to grow. This can be better done by more innovative channels like a super market, a bank, a post office, an ATM, departmental store etc. these could be used to increase channels of insurance. But such growth in channels shall increase with time. Till then agents seem to be the most important distribution channel in this industry. Agents connect with people and influence them to buy any insurance policy. For the same such agents charge commission on the policies they get for the company. There is a fixed percentage of commission for which these agents work. In the field of distribution channels, many innovative techniques can be adopted. For example, Bancassurance and sel ling through postal network will make a great deal of difference. In Europe 25 percent of insurance policies are sold through banks. Bancassurance, as a package of financial services that can fulfill both banking and insurance needs, if implemented correctly can bring vast benefits to stakeholders such as banks, insurance companies, shareholders and consumers.Bancassurance will facilitate mass selling of insurance products through banks.
